When the cow's not in milk I refuse to drink it from the store. What I fall back to is almond milk. How much better can it get when you make it at home? It sure is cheep, and tastes great too!
I know some folks can't have cow milk so nut milks are the norm. I love to be able to whip up a batch of almond milk all by myself. It feels so good to squeeze the milk from the bag of nut pulp! Homemade ya'll! The way to go! Not only is this cheep, but it's easy, quick, simple and delish.
First you start by filling a quart jar 1/3 full with almonds and the rest with water. Let soak in the refrigerator overnight.
Next morning dump the nuts and water into your blender and blend, blend, blend! Let it blend for a good long time to get as much milk from the nuts as you can.
Once you feel it's blended long enough, pour the milk through a super fine strainer or a cheese cloth. I used a jelly strainer and that gives me the purest milk without ANY nut bits.
When you finish straining the milk dump it back into the blender, rinsed out first. Add a pinch of cinnamon and a small dollop of honey then blend a good minute.
Give it one last strain...
There you have it! Your very own homemade almond milk! Pour it over granola, add it to smoothies, or simply enjoy a glass by itself.
