Nothin' beats a mug of good ol' hot chocolate after several hours of skiing, ice skating, or sledding. Or when you have no where to go and nothing to do and it's snowing big, fat, fluffy snowflakes and you can just snuggle with a blanket. Haha. Yeah right. Well, however or wherever you decide you want a mug of hot chocolate this recipe is a hit! And no one ever knows there's NO sugar in it!
This doesn't take long at all to make. Basically all you're doing is throwing everything in a pot and warming it up. Sounds hard right?
I posted a recipe for a Italian Hot Chocolate in December and said I might not ever go back to this. Well, I must say, I do love this recipe. Each kind has its place. This one is perfect for coming inside after long hours of building snowmen, snow forts, and having snowball fights.
Sugar Free Hot Chocolate
1/3 cup butter
4 Tbsp. cocoa powder
4 cups milk
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/2 tsp. vanilla
In a pot melt the butter. Whisk in cocoa powder then slowly add milk while whisking constantly. Add the maple syrup. Bring the mixture to almost boiling. Whisk well then add the vanilla. Serve with whipped cream if you want!
*note: If it's not sweet enough feel free to add more syrup. Just a little bit at a time! You can always add more but you can't take it out!
**Note 2: Feel like dark chocolate? Try dark cocoa powder instead of the regular kind! Top with whipped cream and chocolate sauce for something EXTRA special!!
***Note 3: This makes about 4 cups.
